Lessons I Had To Learn Thousands Of Miles From Home (Part One)
October 9, 2004
Well I have been back in the U.S. for 3 weeks today. It feels so good to be back to the comforts of home, although I genuinely miss the beautiful country of Uganda. Not only do I miss the beauty of the land, but I deeply miss the people I met during my week there. I will never forget the things I saw, heard, tasted, and smelt. Some more pleasant than other. Most importantly I will never forget the simply truths God taught me while I was there. Some of which I should have learned a long time ago, but it took being out of the comforts and familiarity of home for God to speak to my heart so clearly. I want to take this opportunity to share those truths with you.
Number one:
People are the essentially the same no matter where or how far you go.
This experience opened my eyes to see that no matter who people are, how much or how little they have, in the end we are all the same. We are all searching for something to fulfill our lives, something to hold on to, and someone to unconditionally love us. Some of us find that one thing before others, some are blinded by other things on their journey to find that one thing that will fill the void, and some do not want to recognize our need for that one thing to consume our lives. Plain and simple we all are searching for a relationship with our creator and heavenly father. Whether we want to accept that He is the one we are searching for or not, the truth remains the same. I am so blessed to have experienced everything that I encountered during my stay in Uganda. I will never forget the responsiveness and openess that the Ugandans expressed. Everyone I encountered was so willing to accept the hope I shared with them. It opened my eyes to see that there are people hungry for God, not only do they want a relationship with Jesus Christ, their relationship with their creator is the only thing they have to cling on to.
